POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Pipeline Technical Director (TD) to join our technical team supporting cutting-edge VFX productions. You’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining tools and systems that streamline workflows and enable artists to do their best work. This is a collaborative position within an Agile team, ideal for someone passionate about solving production challenges with elegant technical solutions. Previous experience working in a VFX studio is essential.
MAIN DUTIES:
The Pipeline TD will collaborate with artists, supervisors, and other TDs to design and build production tools that improve efficiency and reduce repetitive tasks. They will develop and maintain scalable pipeline systems across departments (rigging, shading, lighting, FX, Roto, Comp, Tracking, etc.), and provide day-to-day technical support to artists, troubleshooting pipeline-related issues and resolving workflow bottlenecks. The ideal candidate will have proven working experience in a VFX or animation studio environment, with strong experience with Python in production environments. They must have prior working experience developing tools for DCC applications such as Nuke, Silhouette, Maya, 3D Equalizer, etc., and be proficient with Qt/PySide for building user interfaces. - Research and recommend new technologies, workflows, and automation strategies to optimize production.
- Create clear, user-friendly documentation for tools and pipeline systems.
- Contribute to Agile sprints and communicate progress regularly with the team.
WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have proven working experience in a VFX or animation studio environment, with strong experience with Python in production environments. They must have prior working experience developing tools for DCC applications such as Nuke, Silhouette, Maya, 3D Equalizer, etc., and be proficient with Qt/PySide for building user interfaces. Additional desired skills include:
- Comfortable working on both Windows and Linux platforms.
- Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment.
- Experience with JavaScript, C++, or web-based tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud-based production environments or render pipelines is a plus.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development teams is a plus.
